Arlington High School

Arlington High School

Client: Arlington School District
Size: 220,000 sf
Location: Arlington, WA

The new Arlington High School is located on a 52 acre site south of downtown. The building is a comprehensive facility designed to house 1,600 students, with core spaces sized to allow the school to be enlarged to accommodate 2,000 students. Recognizing its significance as the city’s only high school, the building is a response to not only functional needs of the program, but to community identity - both present and future. It addresses its site in a logical organized fashion. Building wings take advantage of existing topography and daylight, making efficient use of the limited buildable property. The four academic wings represent the progressive and diverse program elements and are tied together with a central internal commons space that is the functional and social crossroads for students. The interior Commons is the physical heart of the school and is used regularly as the school’s and community’s gathering place.
