Hunt Middle School

Hunt Middle School

Client: Tacoma School District
Size: 118,400 sf
Location: Tacoma, WA

The Hunt Middle School project involves the construction of a new two-story middle school and development of the 26-acre site accommodating approximately 600 students. The existing school will remain operational during the construction of the new school and an existing innovative glu-lam dome structure will be retained after completion of the new facility. The building concept utilizes a central north – south concourse to join the many public and elective spaces with the core educational clusters on the east. The classroom clusters are grouped into grade level houses creating a communal learning complex focused on shared support functions and outdoor learning space. Conceptually the project incorporates a tartan weave pattern derived from the school’s Highlander mascot to infuse wayfinding, cluster identity and an iconic Common’s sunscreen element to create a unique school character.
