Liberty Junior High School

Liberty Junior High School

Client: Bethel School District
Size: 97,500 sf
Location: Spanaway, WA

Liberty Junior High shares the site with the existing Pioneer Valley Elementary School. The architectural resolution of the building complements the existing elementary school and the rural residential setting, creating a campus environment. The school’s academic core is designed around two-story wings that incorporate classrooms, science labs and special education classrooms on each level. The Learning Resource Center is located on the upper level, in proximity to the classroom wings for easy access from both floors and all students. The new School is designed to maximize utilization of space through the incorporation of Professional Development rooms increasing student capacity from 830 to 928. Site improvements include the construction of a new shared Bus loop, a new entry drive leading to parent drop-off and visitor parking to serve the existing elementary school, the new Liberty Junior High, and PE/athletic amenities. Rain gardens are incorporated in the parking areas and throughout the site to assist with storm water management. The project meets the Washington State Sustainable Schools Protocol.
