I have two passions; architecture and education. Since graduating from college, I have either worked for architectural firms that specialize in school design or I have been in classrooms teaching students about architecture. The design of educational and community spaces holds a special place in my heart. As a former high school teacher, I know firsthand how an inspirational, efficient and flexible space can make a difference in the day to day experiences for all building users. I am a firm believer that it is not the architect’s job to design a good building; it is their obligation to create an experience that people will want to have time and time again. It takes a lot of collaboration, a desire to create positive environments and technical understanding to make all the pieces of a very complicated puzzle fit together harmoniously. It is that combination of elements that brought me to McGranahan Architects.
In my spare time I like to explore the many parks and festivals that the Pacific Northwest offers. On days when the weather is uncooperative, I enjoy listening to music and dancing with no particular style. I’ve recently taken up target archery and poi spinning. Someday I might try spinning fire, but until I stop hitting myself in the head, I will stick to using colorful LED lights.
